Curves, Herringbone and a Pink Kitchen: Inside Nouna's Bonnevoie Apartment
In Bonnevoie, a quiet district of Luxembourg City, Nouna and her husband Edouard rebuilt a 125 m² apartment from a blank slate. The old layout is gone. A boxed-in entrance. A closed kitchen. Wasted space. In its place: herringbone parquet, framed wall mouldings, and a curved glass partition that catches the light.
Nouna lives here with Edouard and their two boys. They moved in during July 2025. They wanted one thing. A full renovation, in a neighbourhood they love. The school, the parks, the forest right behind the building.
The architect Serge Kalonda shaped the whole project. He drew the custom verrière. He guided the mouldings, the joinery, the colours. The brief was simple. A Parisian feel, without the cliché.
What makes this home special is the mix. Old codes meet modern comfort. Haussmann mouldings sit next to a pink kitchen. Italian cabinets sit next to an IKEA hack. Family paintings hang inside framed walls, like a small gallery.
One detail says it all. A vintage console, found online, sold by a neighbour. An American who carried it from Miami to Luxembourg. Now it sits in the living room, with its own story to tell.
In this visit with She Said Yes!, Nouna opens the doors to her home. We explore an apartment where Parisian charm meets everyday family life. From the curved verrière to the bordeaux bedroom, every choice shows how a space can feel both elegant and lived in.

SSY Hi Nouna. What did you want when you started this project?
Nouna We wanted a full renovation. We started from a blank slate. We were looking for an apartment to redo completely, here in Bonnevoie. It is about 125 m², and we have lived here since July 2025.
SSY Why was it so important to stay in Bonnevoie?
Nouna We are very attached to the neighbourhood. The kids’ school is here. The neighbours, the closeness to work and the city. We love the local feel. There are parks all around, and the forest is right behind us. Perfect for a run or a walk.
SSY The entrance used to be closed off. What did you change?
Nouna It was very partitioned. A huge entrance that wasted space. So we broke this wall. We kept the column, because it is load-bearing. There was also a door to the kitchen. We closed it off and went for a semi-open kitchen instead.
SSY Why a semi-open kitchen with a verrière?
Nouna The verrière lets the light through. You can cook and still be with your guests. And it protects you from the odours and the noise. The goal was charm, but function too.
SSY Who designed it?
Nouna Our architect, Serge Kalonda. It is his creation. And Mobag, a Luxembourg company, built it custom for us. It was made for this apartment.
SSY The curves come back everywhere. Why curves?
Nouna We love organic, curved shapes. We think they bring more charm. So we had custom pieces made in the kitchen. The rounded shelves, the rounded units. For the verrière colour, we matched the kitchen, so everything feels harmonious.
SSY You wanted high-end but affordable. Where did the kitchen come from?
Nouna The kitchen was important. We spend a lot of time there. It is the only thing we bought outside Luxembourg. We went all the way to Nancy, to a maker called Fratelli Cucine. Italian kitchens, with custom parts too. We are very happy with it.
SSY The pink backsplash surprises people.
Nouna People often ask if my husband agreed to the pink. But it was Edouard who suggested it. So there you go.
SSY The living room feels Parisian. How did you get there?
Nouna I love Parisian apartments. My dream was a Haussmann-style flat in Bonnevoie. We did not find one. There are not many in Luxembourg. So we recreated it. Herringbone parquet, mouldings on the walls and the ceiling. We do not have the fireplace, sadly. But the rest gives that charm.
SSY The mouldings frame your paintings like a gallery.
Nouna We had a lot of paintings to hang. Edouard recovered many family paintings. So the architect proposed framed mouldings on the wall, to place the paintings inside. It gives a little gallery feel. The one in the middle was painted by Edouard’s grandfather.
SSY The little vintage console has a story too.
Nouna We found it online. It was sold by someone in the neighbourhood, an American who had brought it from Miami. We bought it right here in Bonnevoie. We loved the piece, and the story behind it.
SSY The entrance furniture is an IKEA hack?
Nouna Yes. We had planned a custom bookshelf and shoe cabinet for the entrance. But the budget ran out. We had put it into the mouldings and the parquet. So it is IKEA Billy units glued together, with a top added. A handyman helped us cut it to fit. If we do not tell you, you cannot tell. Maybe I should not have said it 😁.
SSY Your bedroom is bordeaux. Was that your choice?
Nouna Bordeaux is my favourite colour in the apartment. It is the one colour my husband and I did not agree on. The architect made several proposals, very iterative. In the end I asked him to trust me. I even wanted it everywhere. The compromise was one wall only. The two wardrobes are IKEA, with handles I found in a small shop in town.
SSY The bathroom puts ergonomics first.
Nouna We have two shower rooms but only use one. We swapped the bathtub for a large shower, so we can put the kids in together. I am short, so I wanted low furniture and a big shower. The architect kept it design, with brass fixtures and a rain shower. The brass column will patina over time.
SSY What did you keep from the old apartment?
Nouna Nothing, except the doors. They were good quality and had charm. They bring something to the place. They blend well with the rest of the décor.
SSY After a year, would you change anything?
Nouna I am thinking. A few things are not finished. The balconies, the curtains. We should do them soon. But we had great experiences with every trade and supplier. The kitchen, the verrière, the architect, the builder. No regrets.
