Meet Jacques

Orange, Blue and 100 Drawings a Day: Inside Jacques Schneider's Gallery

On rue Louvigny, in the heart of Luxembourg City, a door opens onto a world of colour. Orange and blue on every wall. Paintings, drawings, sculptures. Every piece tells a story about the country.

Jacques Schneider is a self-taught artist. He started drawing at six. He never stopped. Today, he works on 700 projects a year and makes around a hundred drawings a day.

His colours have a story. Orange like the sun. Blue like the sky. They are also the colours of the House of Orange-Nassau. Years later, they led him to work with the Grand Ducal Family.

What makes Jacques different is his rhythm. Everything inspires him. What he sees, what he feels, even what he eats. One idea leads to the next. The circle never stops.

He works with big brands like Porsche and local names like Domaines Vinsmoselle. But for him, the real value is elsewhere. It is the people. A postcard or a painting worth thousands of euros. The relationship matters the same.

In this visit with She Said Yes!, Jacques opens the doors of his gallery. We explore a place where art is made every day. From the colours that define him to the one word he wants to pass on: desire.

She Said Yes!

SSY      Welcome Jacques. You make around a hundred drawings a day. How did it all start?

Jacques      I started when I was six. I have always drawn. It is what gives rhythm to my life.

I paint, I draw, I sculpt, I create. Today it is about 700 projects a year. A hundred drawings a day. And every day, a new adventure.

SSY      Where can people find your work today?

Jacques      Here, on rue Louvigny in Luxembourg. But also in Brussels, at the Sablon. In Paris. And in Berlin.

SSY      Orange and blue are everywhere in your work. Why these two colours?

Jacques      They are almost premonitory. Orange like the sun. Blue like the sky.

And in the end, these colours brought me to the Grand Ducal Family.

SSY      Where does your inspiration come from?

Jacques      I am very lucky. Since I was a child, inspiration comes without effort.

Everything I see, everything I feel, everything I eat inspires me. It all makes me want to create.

SSY      How does one idea turn into the next project?

Jacques      It creates a virtuous circle. Something that never ends.

Each element creates another element. And that new element finds its way into a project.

SSY      Do you know what a piece will look like before you start?

Jacques      No. I try to show what I love and what defines me. But I also let myself be surprised.

I try not to have any preconceived ideas. I don’t imagine the result in advance.

SSY      Do you have role models?

Jacques      I would say I have no model. Only one thing makes me want to follow someone: passion. Everyone we work with is passionate.

If I had models, they would be people who act. People who do something because of their character. Not because of their title or their uniform.

SSY      You collaborate with brands like Porsche and Domaines Vinsmoselle. What matters to you in a partnership?

Jacques      Big brand or local brand, it is the same. Whether it is Porsche or Domaines Vinsmoselle, I want to show a product through my own eyes.

Above all, I need to sign the creation. And at the end, I must be able to say: I am proud to work with them.

SSY      What matters most in your relationship with the people who buy your work?

Jacques      I don’t know how to explain it. For me, the most important thing is the human relationship.

Someone comes for a badge. Someone gets a postcard as a gift. Someone buys a piece worth several thousand euros. It does not matter. The relationship is what counts.

SSY      If you had one message to pass on, what would it be?

Jacques      I like to give everyone a place in my work. But more than that, everyone must create their own place. Everyone must feel part of society.

We all have our flaws. We all have our qualities. The most important thing is to be part of it. And for that, you have to want it.

So maybe desire is the most important thing. If I have one word to pass on, it is this: give people the desire.
