Meet Diogo
Curry, Concerts and Soul: Inside the Rockhal Café with Diogo
In Belval, next to Luxembourg’s biggest concert hall, the Rockhal Café has reopened after three years. It is not what you expect. No burgers. No fries. Asian fusion cuisine. Fragrant curries. Brochettes. Sharing plates.
Diogo is the manager. He arrived from Portugal three years ago as a bartender at Concept+Partners. Today, he runs the whole restaurant.
The interior was designed by EL’LE Architects (Élodie Lenoir and Arnaud Decolle). Their brief was simple: keep the energy of the Rockhal, but create a space where people want to stay.
What makes this place special is the balance. Before a concert, thousands of people walk past the door. Most don’t stop. Those who enter discover something different. A cuisine that surprises. A décor that feels warm. And an energy that lasts long after the last encore.
The Rockhal Café is not just a restaurant next to a concert hall. It is the place where the evening begins. Or the place where it continues.
In this visit with She Said Yes!, Diogo opens the doors. We explore a restaurant that lives at its own rhythm. Concert nights and quiet lunches. Asian flavours and rock’n’roll energy.

SSY Welcome Diogo! The Rockhal Café was closed for almost three years. What was the idea behind the reopening?
Diogo The idea was not just to reopen a café. We wanted to create a real restaurant. A place that lives before the concerts. And also after. Something that stands on its own.
SSY Most people would expect burgers and fries next to a concert hall. You went a different direction. Why?
Diogo There are already great burger places in Belval. People know where to go for that. We wanted to bring something that didn’t exist here. An Asian-inspired kitchen. Curries. Brochettes. Sharing plates. Something fast but full of flavour.
SSY The décor is striking. It doesn’t feel like a typical concert venue restaurant. Who designed it?
Diogo Élodie Lenoir and Arnaud Decolle from EL’LE Architects. They did an amazing job. The idea was to keep the energy of the Rockhal but make it warm. A place where you want to sit down and stay. Not just grab a beer and leave.
SSY What does a typical concert night look like here?
Diogo It’s intense. People arrive excited. They want to eat before the show. Everything needs to be fast but good. Then after the concert, some come back. They want to extend the evening. The energy is different. More relaxed. But still alive.
SSY And what about days without concerts?
Diogo That’s the real challenge. We open for lunch too. We want to be a place for people who live or work in Belval. Not just a concert restaurant. A neighbourhood restaurant. That’s what will make it work long term.
SSY You started as a bartender at Concept+Partners. Now you manage this restaurant. How did that happen?
Diogo I arrived from Portugal three years ago. I started behind the bar. Cocktails. Service. I didn’t know anyone here. But I worked hard. And Christophe gives opportunities to people who show motivation. That’s how Concept+Partners works. They don’t look at your CV. They look at your energy.
SSY What did you learn behind the bar that helps you as a manager?
Diogo Everything. You learn to read people. To feel the mood of a room. To stay calm when it gets intense. The bar teaches you the basics of hospitality. The rest you learn by doing.
SSY The menu is designed for sharing. Why is that important?
Diogo Because eating together creates a different energy. When you share plates, people talk more. They try new things. It makes the experience more convivial. And it fits the spirit of this place. Music brings people together. Food should do the same.
SSY What is your favourite dish on the menu?
Diogo The curry. Without hesitation. It’s fragrant, it’s generous, and it surprises people every time. Most people don’t expect to find a curry like that next to a concert hall. That’s exactly the point.
SSY The “Made with Soul” sign is everywhere in the restaurant. What does it mean to you?
Diogo It means everything we do here has intention. The food. The music. The way we welcome people. Nothing is random. Every detail is thought through. Soul is what makes the difference between a place where you eat and a place where you feel something.
SSY If someone has never been to the Rockhal Café, what would you tell them?
Diogo Come. Even without a concert. Sit down. Try the curry. Feel the energy. This is not what you think it is. It’s better.
SSY Last question. Where do you see the Rockhal Café in two years?
Diogo Full. Every day. Lunch and dinner. Concert nights and quiet evenings. I want people to say “Let’s go to the Rockhal Café” without checking if there’s a show. That’s the goal.
